On the scalability and capacity of planar wireless networks with omnidirectional antennas

چکیده
We extend the previously well-known results on the capacity of wireless networks and present the implications of our results on network scalability. In particular, we find bounds on the maximum achievable per-node end-to-end throughput, e, and the maximum number of simultaneously successful wireless transmissions, N max t , under a more general network scenario than previously considered. Furthermore, in the derivation of our results, we make no restrictions on the mobility pattern of the nodes or on the number simultaneous transmissions and/or receptions that nodes are capable of maintaining. In our derivation, we analyze the effect of parameters such as the area of the network domain, A, the path loss exponent, , the processing gain, G, and the SINR threshold, . Specifically, we prove the following results for a wireless network of N nodes that are equipped with omnidirectional antennas:

On the Capacity of Wireless Sensor Networks with Omnidirectional Antennas
81 Abstract We establish some new results on the capacity of wireless sensor networks that employ single-userdetection, and we present the implications of our results on the scalability of such networks. In particular, we find bounds on the maximum achievable per-sensor end-to-end throughput, λe, and the maximum number of simultaneously successful wireless transmissions, Nt , under a more gener...
متن کاملTarget Tracking with Unknown Maneuvers Using Adaptive Parameter Estimation in Wireless Sensor Networks
Abstract- Tracking a target which is sensed by a collection of randomly deployed, limited-capacity, and short-ranged sensors is a tricky problem and, yet applicable to the empirical world. In this paper, this challenge has been addressed a by introducing a nested algorithm to track a maneuvering target entering the sensor field. In the proposed nested algorithm, different modules are to fulfill...
متن کاملCapacity Enhancement in Wireless Networks using Directional Antennas
One of the biggest drawbacks of the wireless environment is the limited bandwidth. However, the users sharing this limited bandwidth have been increasing considerably. SDMA technique which entails using directional antennas allows to increase the capacity of a wireless network by separating users in the medium. In this paper, it has been presented how the capacity can be enhanced while the mean...
متن کاملEvaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of an Antenna Model for the Cooja simulator
COOJA is a network simulator developed for wireless sensor networks. It can be used for high-level algorithm development as well as low-level device driver implementations for accurate simulation of wireless sensor networks before deployment. However, in a simulation Cooja assumes that the nodes are only equipped with omnidirectional antennas. There is currently no support for directional anten...
